Hi, I'm Kate.

I’m a firm believer that everyone can achieve with the right framework in place. I am the biggest cheerleader for each of my students, ensuring self-confidence is never something that will hold them back.

Having been a full time teacher for over a decade, I now work in schools on a part-time basis, running study skills workshops and supporting their A-level biologists who are struggling to make the jump from GCSE.

What I Offer

Academic Coaching

Helping my students to develop better study skills, time management strategies, and crucial exam technique to help them to maximise exam performance and develop a love of learning.

Biology Tuition

Supporting those struggling to achieve their desired grades, by breaking down the complex ideas into easier, more manageable pieces and helping with ways to remember them.

The Creation of EduKate

You might think that someone with an MA in Biology from Oxford University always found academics easy, but that wasn't my story.

Classroom Challenges

In school, I was passionate about biology, but I faced significant challenges, including a disheartening D in my GCSE mock exam. This experience highlighted to me that success requires more than just a love for the subject; it requires effective study strategies and exam technique.

My Unique Framework

I had to teach myself the entire syllabus from scratch while simultaneously mastering new study techniques. While these strategies served me well in school, I found myself stuck again during university. Lacking a successful toolbox of strategies, I struggled to adapt to the increased complexity of university-level biology. It was during this time that I began developing my own systematic approach to learning, which eventually crystallised into my 5-step ‘A-STAR framework.’ Learning is a messy process, and I wanted to create a framework that could help all students find their path through it.

When I transitioned into teaching, I made it my mission to empower students to learn how to learn—not just memorise content.

My teaching philosophy centres on understanding each student's individual needs, so they feel confident in their ability to learn and succeed.

In 2020 the world was thrown into lockdown.

I was 35 weeks pregnant at the time, and, like many, skeptical about online learning. However, this experience revealed its immense potential. It was then that EduKate was born (and my son)!

My Services

Since then, I've supported hundreds of students with my A-STAR framework.

I continuously refine this method, ensuring it remains relevant and effective. Each step prepares students to tackle exams with confidence. I'm also excited to launch a new learning hub in 2025, providing students 24/7 access to resources and support.

I create ‘clever’ resources and ask ‘clever’ questions

I aim to draw out the answers from my students, rather than simply re-teaching content. This shows them that the knowledge is already within them, allowing them to make better connections and forge stronger recall of the material.

Simply put, I found myself becoming more of a coach than a tutor, as I found that this approach had a much more long-term impact.

What sets me apart in this field is my genuine care for each student’s success. I strive to understand them as individuals, allowing me to build strong rapport and tailor my approach to their unique strengths.
